Vision
The Hudson Valley and Lake Champlain are considered a national treasure. The lake, with its beautiful natural surroundings and robust history, has fostered a vibrant culture. The north and south canal connections to French-speaking Québec and New York City have enlightened and enriched the people of the Champlain Valley. The Quadricentennial will place an international spotlight on the Hudson Valley, Lake Champlain and New York City; its history and culture.
The Explore NY 400 commemoration of 2009 will stimulate and encourage:
Local, national and international tourism to New York City, the Hudson Valley and Lake Champlain regions
Development of educational curriculum in the schools throughout New York State
Celebration of the multiculturalism of the Hudson Valley, Lake Champlain and New York City regions
The program of continuing to preserve open space, parks and access from Lake Champlain to NY Harbor
A swimmable river for its entire length by 2009
